Elena Avanesova (b. 1974) I was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and have been painting since I was seven years old. In 1981, the Soviet educational system still selected young students talented in arts, music and sport to study in special schools dedicated to developing those talents. Coming from an artistic family, it was expected that I would study art myself, and at the age of seven, was identified as a future Soviet artist. From secondary school, I proceeded to the Tashkent Academy of Art, where, over the course of five years I studied painting, architecture and sculpture, eventually developing a specialization in oil painting.
Following my studies, I worked for four years in Tashkent, as an artist in a graphic design studio and as an art teacher in the local international school. In 1998, I moved to Bangkok to pursue a Master’s Degree and continue teaching art. In 2001, I arrived in Europe, eventually ending up in Switzerland, via Nice and Cambridge. In this time I have devoted considerable energy to teaching adults and children, as well as developing my own talents further. In 2006 I moved to Rhode Island, USA, where new friends and coastal views of the ocean and bays inspired further artistic exploration.
Now I am working and living in Southern California. Looking around my exhibits, you may notice a number of distinct styles, reflecting the time and place of work, as well as the stage in my artistic development. Enjoy—and please do not hesitate to email me with any questions!
